White

2008 Redcliffe Sauvignon Blanc

We were able to obtain special pricing for this New Zealand winery’s tasty Sauvignon Blanc to sell at half the price of most popular New Zealand wineries. Redcliffe’s zesty Sauvignon Blanc is from the winery's Marlborough vineyards. Vibrant with aromas and flavors of passion fruit and melon, it's the perfect white for any occasion. Enjoy it on its own or with appetizers and a wide range of cuisines. An excellent match with sushi and oysters.

2009 Loca Linda Torrontes Liter

Brian Mitchell is a former Manhattan Sommelier who fell in love with the wines of Argentina.  He’s now making wine from some of this best vineyard sites and bottling them in Liter Bottles.  That’s approximately 30% more wine than a standard bottle.  This Torrontes comes from 50yr old vines. There is no additional acidity added, so this un-manipulated white has good depth, with rounded Clementine, persimmon and white peach flavors that linger.

Canal’s Hainesport Everyday Low Price: $14.99/Tasting ONLY Price: $13.49

Red

2009 Sean Minor Carneros Pinot Noir

This is our best California Pinot Noir for under $20. Sean Minor has done a brilliant job sourcing grapes from various vineyards to make an excellent qpr Pinot Noir. Complex, floral aromas of ripe plum, black cherry, spice and mineral fold together nicely on the palate.  It’s a full-bodied Pinot Noir with a nice touch of vanilla oak on the finish.

Canal’s Hainesport Everyday Low Price: $19.99/Tasting ONLY Price: $17.99

2009 Cecchi Bonizio

This “Best Buy” from the Wine Spectator is an alternative to their traditional Chianti.  The Bonizio blends Merlot with Sangiovese to produce a rounder, softer wine that is still unmistakably Tuscan. Here’s the Spectator’s endorsement “Round initially, with black cherry and blackberry flavors, picking up light tannins by the finish. Straight forward, with moderate length.”

Canal’s Hainesport Everyday Low Price: $9.99/Tasting ONLY Price: $8.99

2009 BenMarco Malbec

This is, by far, our most popular Malbec at the store in this price range.  And why not, it received a 91 Rated Recommendation from the Wine Advocate. “Blended with 10% Bonarda; spice box, incense, lavender, black cherry; rich, plush palate.” It is framed with medium-bodied tannins.

List Price: $18/Canal’s Hainesport Everyday Low Price: $16.99/ Tasting ONLY Prices: $15.29

Riesling of the Week

2009 Shafer-Frohlich Bockenauer Felseneck Spatlese

This star producer from the Nahe received 91 Rating from both the Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate. The Advocate review states, “Licorice, sassafras, pink grapefruit, white peach, and quince are on the nose of Schafer-Frohlich’s 2009 Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Spatlese.  It finishes with a cloud-like expression of herbal, pit fruit, and citrus oil essences. Expect 15-20 years of satisfaction from this seductive, highly-distinctive Spatlese.
